Colin’s Weekly Update — Year in Review!
But first, our week in review
Presearch and the crypto industry
Presearch, as well as the industry as a whole, made huge strides to achieving mass adoption in 2021. At Presearch, we’ve grown in all areas of the project, welcomed new team members, consistently broke usage records and landed some groundbreaking deals on the way to becoming one of the most active projects in the entire crypto space. Here’s a high level overview of what we, and the industry as a whole, have accomplished this year!
The Rise of Crypto
Crypto, just a year ago, was still emerging from the freezing cold bear market that lasted from bitcoin highs in January 2018 to the end of 2020 when bitcoin broke into all time high territory. At that time, Ethereum was just over $700, Axie Infinity was under $30 million market cap, $OHM hadn’t been invented yet, BAYC was still a twinkle in the eye, Opensea had only a few hundred thousand in volume for the month, and the industry as a whole was under $750 Billion.
A year later, Ethereum has blown past $4000, Axie Infinity is a nearly $7 billion dollar behemoth and spearheading the movement we call Play to Earn, $OHM is a top 70 crypto, BAYC is worth more than the multi billion dollar clothing brand Supreme, Opensea did more volume in August than nearly every crypto exchange, and the crypto market cap is over $2.2 trillion. That’s Trillion, with a capital “T”.
In just a year, so many simultaneous revolutions have begun to take place. Finally, artists can make a good living selling their unique work with programable authenticity and scarcity. New companies and innovations can finance themselves through DeFi. People in developing countries can partake in the innovations by playing online games, in some cases earning more than what they would through most jobs in their countries. People are able to send funds across borders instantly, without adhering to the mandates of oppressive governments and big banks. Internet users can take back their privacy and freedom, instead of being the products themselves as when using big tech. Anyone in the world can now access the financial markets 24/7 compared the walled gates of the US financial system. The world is changing for the better, and it’s because of crypto. Crypto is this generation’s zeitgeist.
While we’ve come a long way, there is a long way to go. We aren’t able to purchase everyday goods with crypto, there are frequent hacks and spammers in nearly every corner of the space. But the positives exceedingly outweigh the negatives and the future with crypto, blockchain and decentralization is a better future for all.
Presearch in 2021
Where we started
In January 2021, we had modest beginnings. We had over 200,000 searches a day and ~13 million searches for the month. We were getting ready for testnet launch and had a mountain of hopes and dreams for the year.
The market was just beginning to take off, ETH had just broken $1,000 and the whole industry was ready to explode, after many years of depressed prices and low user numbers amongst most crypto projects, the market was ready to roar, it has definitely showed it’s horns.
We had a small spike in price in January and February when the token price went up to $.10. With the market crash, the token decreased back down to $.02. It took until September and the Android Choice Screen for the token price to go over $.20, and eventually near $.50.
The confluence of things that lead to the token growth and user growth were 4 fold. It began with the launch of Nodes at the end of January. This brought our first wave of users in the year. Two was our UI overhaul during the late summer. This made the search experience sticky, and the searches increased from 750,000 searches to over 2M searches a day in just one month. The next was the Android Choice Screen. This greatly helped the distribution of Presearch in Europe, and the press coverage brought in a new wave of users to the platform.
Lastly, was our node operators. They came in and bought PRE, supported the network, spread the word of decentralized search and brought in the next wave of users.
Where we’re at now
Development Highlights 2021
Besides pushing to Mainnet, overhauling RVS and initiating web3 withdrawals, we also plan to release a Road to Mainnet NFT!
Community and Marketing Highlights 2021:
We’re at over 6 million searches a day and 200M searches a month. We have over 53,000 nodes connected to our testnet and over 3.3 million registered users.
It’s going to be an exciting 2022 on the development & marketing front for Presearch!
Community Growth
- Our community telegram went from under 5,000 people to over 13,000 people.
- Our nodes telegram was started in January, and now has over 8,000 Members
- Our twitter has gone from 10K to 30K followers!
- We’ve had a myriad of influencers find, support, create videos and bring in new users to the project!

We’ve made some amazing friends in the past year who have helped us tremendously.
