When Presearch released its vision paper in 2020, the project laid out three phases:
Phase I: Launching and finding product market fit,
Phase II: sustainability and decentralizing search, and
Phase III: Decentralized governance.
With Presearch beginning to enter Phase III, and ultimately moving more transactions on-chain, the project is making some key preparations in anticipation of this. One of those changes is the decision to sunset the current Presearch Marketplace, where users have been able to previously purchase PRE tokens directly from the project.
Starting March 1st at midnight EST, the current Presearch Marketplace has been deactivated and purchasers are now being directed to external marketplaces.
Since the project was launched, the Presearch Marketplace served a critical role in enabling the easy purchase of PRE advertising credits by credit card and other traditional payment methods, in addition to cryptocurrency. The market has matured in recent years, however, and now many traditional fiat and credit card onramps exist, with several even integrated directly into popular web3 wallets.
Services like MoonPay, Coinbase Pay, Transak, and Simplex are now directly accessible in wallets like MetaMask and MyEtherWallet, for example, making it easy to purchase PRE in three simple steps:
- Purchase ETH, USDC, or similar popular ERC20 tokens with a credit card from your crypto wallet.
- Hit “swap” and swap those purchased tokens for PRE inside the same wallet (or alternatively leveraging one of many public exchanges).
- Transfer the PRE to the Presearch Platform.
While this three-step process may make it slightly more difficult to purchase PRE for those who previously just entered their credit card and instantly had PRE tokens credited to their account for advertising or node staking, we believe that taking this step now will better align with both web3 principles and with Presearch’s long-term vision as the project enters into its decentralized governance phase soon. It also moves transactions that previously took tokens from the project treasury and instead pushes those orders onto public markets. This will increase liquidity, volume and transparency in the long run, all of which are important for a healthy market. It’s worth noting that the vast majority of PRE transferred onto the platform historically has been bought on the open market.
We may reintroduce a marketplace in the future based upon community feedback and market dynamics, but for the time being, we are sunsetting the current Presearch Marketplace indefinitely until further notice.
