We’re excited to announce that Presearch has a new homepage and a sweet new web address: Presearch.com!

We’ve been anxiously awaiting the day when we could switch URLs, as the .com brand is a lot stronger in the minds of average users, and will make our marketing efforts a lot more effective.

Why is .com so important to Presearch?

.com traditionally represented a website being ‘commercial’, but in the context of Presearch, we say .com represents ‘community’. Being a community-driven search engine, community is at the heart of the project. The Presearch core team is made up of many long-time community members, the project has grown to over 5M daily searches thanks to community members, and the Presearch community is responsible for creating one of the world’s largest decentralized node networks.

Community will always represent what Presearch stands for, and having Presearch.com(munity) as the project’s domain helps reinforce this.

Updated URLs

If you haven’t noticed already, we’ve transferred all of the project’s sub pages to sub domains (i.e. presearch.org/account is now account.presearch.com). This may not seem like a big deal, but it’s a crucial step toward unifying the experience of using the Presearch search engine.

You’ll also notice that we’re no longer using engine.presearch.org for search results, and instead, your queries will be routed through presearch.com/search?q={query}. This will result in a better user experience and less login issues, making it easier to collect rewards without being logged into some parts of the site and not others.

This switch also provides cleaner URLs that are optimal for building traffic to Presearch from external websites, something we plan to focus on in a big way now!

You may still find a small handful of links across the site that still reference the previous domains, but we’ll be cleaning these up over the coming days post-Mainnet launch.

Revised Presearch homepage

The new Presearch homepage, with additional customization options and more responsive functionality is now live. Check it out if you haven’t already.

The old homepage (below for comparison) served us well, but has now been retired:

While it will feel very familiar right out of the box, the new homepage now provides a sleeker experience, a more optimized dark mode and set of menus, and new options such as color logos and the ability to fully customize the color scheme to build your own unique and personalized Presearch experience.

Faster Global Access

Not only do we have a new domain name and sleeker, more customizable home page, but the new presearch.com website is also more global. Previously all requests from around the world were routed to webservers in western-North America, regardless of where searches originated from around the world. This led to a much slower search experience than we would like for community members outside of the Americas.

With the release of Presearch.com and the upcoming mainnet launch, the Presearch website now routes all searchers to regional webservers, with local gateways a subnet of local nodes within the region. We’ll get into the technical details about how this works in our upcoming post about geographically-distributed gateways, but the end results should be a much faster in-market search experience across the globe.

Final Release before Mainnet

We’re excited as this is the final big product release before Mainnet. We have two more articles coming out shortly after Mainnet describing smart node routing and geographically-distributed gateways, both of which are major technical achievements that also helped pave the way for the Mainnet launch. We look forward to sharing those with you after we successfully complete the Mainnet launch over the next two days. All systems are go! 🚀
